I got involved in the dog world through purchasing a little heading dog named Billy in 1991. He was a pet shop special. Our first NDOA was at Wanganui in 1993 where we competed in special beginners. While competing in special beginners I watched with envy a fellow competitor with a brown male bearded collie call Max. I remember thinking “one day I’m going to have one of them”.
Billy was a great dog and we climbed the obedience ranks to the level of Test C obedience, agility and even had a go at trials. We also competed in the Tux Wonder Dogs series when it was filmed in Titahi Bay. There will always be a little bit of Bill in every dog I ever own or breed.
In 1997 I was admitted to the NZKC obedience ribbon trial judges panel and a year later to the NZKC Obedience Championship panel. I am currently on the Test A Championship Obedience panel.
In 2003 I decided to get that stunning male bearded collie I’d always wanted. After discussions with Tim Finlayson in Australia I awaited the arrival of the planned litter. I received a telephone call from Tim to inform me that they had whelped a total of 13 puppies in 24 hours and that there was only one male and that the male was the runt of the litter and not suitable for me. The male puppy later died. So I had the choice of a female or nothing. In 2004 I imported my first bearded collie, a bitch named NZ Ch Bonibraes Classic Image (imp aust) CDX (Visa).
I worked really hard with Visa in obedience, and in the breed ring, and she eventually gained her Ch status and I gained a lot more knowledge of the breed ring. Visa went on to win her Novice class at the 2007 National Dog Training Assembly and also gained her Companion Dog Excellence (CDX) status. We are currently competing in obedience at Test C level.
In November 2007 I mated Visa to Ch Ramsgrove Majority (imp UK). On 8 January 2008 7 bitches and 1 dog were born. A little girl in the litter that caught my eye and I decided I was going to keep that puppy, along came CH Jazabil in Credit. Credit achieved champion status at 13 months and accumulated 4 baby puppies of group, one minor puppy of show, two puppies of group and so far one junior of group in her limited show career. From that same litter two other puppies CH Jazabil Crazie Money and CH Jazabil line of Credit have so far also been made into breed champions as well.
And so Jazabil Bearded Collies began........
